A detailed orientation session on the B.Ed. curriculum was conducted by Dr. Krishnakumar E.P., IQAC Coordinator, on 22 July 2026 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:10 p.m. The session was organized to familiarize B.Ed. students with the structure, objectives, and academic requirements of the programme.
Dr. Krishnakumar began the session with an overview of the B.Ed. curriculum, highlighting its objectives and the importance of each component in preparing future teachers. He explained the structure of the programme in a systematic manner, enabling students to understand the organization and progression of the course.
A major part of the session focused on the mark distribution of the B.Ed. programme. He elaborated on the allocation of marks for theory papers, practical components, internal assessment, and external examinations. He also provided a detailed explanation of the internal mark distribution, clarifying how marks are awarded through assignments, seminars, classroom participation, practical work, attendance, and other continuous assessment activities. Students were advised to maintain consistency in their academic performance throughout the semester to secure good internal assessment scores.
The resource person then discussed the syllabus in detail, explaining the various courses offered in each semester and their learning outcomes. He outlined the content of the core papers, pedagogical subjects, and practical components, helping students understand the academic expectations of the programme.
Dr. Krishnakumar also gave a comprehensive explanation of the EPC (Enhancing Professional Capacities) programmes. He described the objectives and significance of each EPC course in developing essential professional competencies such as communication skills, reflective practices, ICT integration, reading and reflecting on texts, and other teaching-related abilities. He emphasized that these programmes play a vital role in shaping competent, reflective, and professionally skilled teachers.
Another important aspect of the session was the explanation of the semester-wise division of the B.Ed. programme. He clearly described the academic activities, coursework, practical engagements, internships, school-based experiences, and assessment procedures scheduled across the semesters. This helped students gain a clear understanding of the sequence of academic and professional activities throughout the duration of the course.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion during which students raised their queries regarding the curriculum, evaluation process, EPC activities, and semester structure. Dr. Krishnakumar addressed each question patiently and provided clear guidance, ensuring that students gained a comprehensive understanding of the programme.
