Report on the Inauguration of the NSS Kannur University Cell House Renovation Project at Eriveri
The NSS Cell of Kannur University successfully completed and inaugurated a house renovation project under its community outreach and social service initiatives on 30 June, at 10.00 a.m., at Eriveri. The project was undertaken as a humanitarian effort to provide a safe and dignified living environment for Mrs. V. V. Sheela and Mr. Sreekumar, whose house was in an extremely dilapidated condition.
The renovation project was formally inaugurated by Dr. K. K. Saju, Vice Chancellor, Kannur University, in the presence of Dr. Joby K. Jose, Registrar, Kannur University, and Dr. Rosa M. C., Principal, SUM College of Teacher Education (SUMCTE). The event witnessed the participation of NSS Programme Officers, volunteers, local residents, well-wishers, and representatives from various colleges affiliated with Kannur University.
The renovation was made possible through the collective efforts of the NSS Units of SUM College of Teacher Education and S.N. College, Kannur, with financial assistance voluntarily contributed by NSS Units from various colleges under Kannur University. This collaborative initiative reflected the spirit of unity, compassion, and social responsibility that forms the foundation of the National Service Scheme.
The house was previously in a highly unsafe and uninhabitable condition, making daily life difficult for the family. Recognizing their plight, the NSS volunteers and Programme Officers took the initiative to renovate the house, ensuring that the beneficiaries could live in a secure, clean, and comfortable environment. The project stands as a remarkable example of how collective social commitment can transform lives.
The renovation work was successfully coordinated with the dedicated support and leadership of Mr. Suneesh K., NSS Programme Officer, SUM College of Teacher Education, whose efforts played a significant role in the timely completion of the project. NSS volunteers from the participating colleges actively engaged in various stages of the renovation, demonstrating their commitment to community service and humanitarian values.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. K. Saju, Vice Chancellor of Kannur University, appreciated the sincere efforts of the NSS volunteers and Programme Officers. In his inaugural address, he emphasized that charity and humanity are the cornerstones of a progressive society. He remarked that students should not limit themselves to academic excellence alone but should actively cultivate compassion, empathy, and social responsibility through meaningful community engagement. He congratulated all the NSS Units that contributed financially and physically to the successful completion of the project and encouraged students to continue such initiatives that positively impact society.
The dignitaries also appreciated the collaborative efforts of the participating colleges and highlighted the importance of extending support to economically and socially disadvantaged families. They noted that such initiatives strengthen the bond between educational institutions and the community while nurturing responsible and compassionate citizens.
The beneficiaries, Mrs. V. V. Sheela and Mr. Sreekumar, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Kannur University, the participating NSS Units, Programme Officers, volunteers, and all contributors whose generosity and dedication made their dream of a renovated home a reality.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Principal, NSS Programme Officers, volunteers, donors, and all those who supported the project. The successful completion of the House Renovation Project at Eriveri stands as a shining example of the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You,” reaffirming the commitment of Kannur University NSS to serving society with compassion, dedication, and humanity. Our students worked hard before the inauguration of the House for several days, doing cleaning, plastering, and sanitation work, with the help of the NSS program officer, Mr.Sunesh K.
