





ONAM CELEBRATION 2026
SUM College of Teacher Education
The Onam Celebration 2026 of SUM College of Teacher Education (SUMCTE) was conducted with great enthusiasm and festive spirit on 19 August 2026 at the SUM College Auditorium. The celebration brought together the teaching staff and students in a joyful atmosphere, reflecting the rich cultural heritage, unity, and spirit of Kerala.
The programme was marked by the active participation of the teaching faculty and college authorities. Mr. C. Ahammedkutty Master, Manager, SUMCTE; Dr. Rosa MC, Principal, SUMCTE; Dr. Krishnakumar EP; Mr. Divakaran, P.E.; Mr. Suneesh K; Mr. George Joseph; Mr. Sachin E; Ms. Hiba, and other teachers participated wholeheartedly in the celebrations.
A beautiful Onam Pookalam was arranged by the students, adding colour and traditional charm to the venue. The students displayed great creativity and teamwork in preparing the floral decoration. A special attraction of the celebration was the beautifully decorated Maveli, symbolising the legendary King Mahabali and the values of equality, prosperity, happiness, and togetherness associated with Onam.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was the traditional Onam Sadya. A delicious and sumptuous feast was prepared and served to the participants. The Sadya, accompanied by a tasty payasam, added a traditional flavour to the festivities and created a warm sense of togetherness among the members of the college community.
The afternoon session was filled with fun, excitement, and entertainment. Various traditional and recreational programmes were organised at the SUM Auditorium. The celebrations included an energetic group dance, the thrilling Vadam Vali, an entertaining Musical Chair competition, and several other activities. The enthusiastic participation of teachers and students made the events lively and memorable.
The Vadam Vali competition particularly created great excitement and team spirit among the participants, while the Musical Chair provided moments of laughter and enjoyment. The group dance added colour and rhythm to the celebration, making the afternoon session vibrant and engaging.
The Onam celebration provided an opportunity for the college community to come together beyond the academic environment and celebrate Kerala’s cultural traditions. It strengthened friendship, cooperation, team spirit, and a sense of belonging among teachers and students.
The celebration concluded on a joyful note, leaving everyone with cherished memories of togetherness, laughter, delicious food, and cultural celebration. The Onam Celebration 2026 at SUMCTE was indeed a colourful and memorable occasion that beautifully captured the essence of Onam – prosperity, harmony, equality, and togetherness.
