Report on the Orientation Programme on Assessment and Blueprint Making

An orientation programme on Assessment and Blueprint Making was conducted on 30 June 2026 at the SUM College Auditorium. The session was handled by Mr. Divakaran P. E., who provided valuable insights into the principles and practices of educational assessment.

The resource person focused on the process of question paper preparation and achievement test construction, highlighting the essential steps involved in designing valid and reliable assessment tools. He explained the significance of careful planning and blueprint preparation to ensure balanced coverage of learning outcomes, content areas, and cognitive levels.

A major highlight of the session was the detailed explanation of the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy and its application in assessment. Mr. Divakaran introduced the concepts of basic, average, and profound-level questions, demonstrating how questions can be framed to assess different levels of students’ understanding and higher-order thinking skills.

He also elaborated on the preparation of selected-response items, such as multiple-choice, true/false, and matching questions, as well as constructed-response items, including short-answer and essay-type questions. The session emphasized the importance of preparing clear, objective, and learner-centred assessment tools that effectively measure students’ achievement.

The programme was highly informative and interactive, enabling the participants to develop a comprehensive understanding of assessment practices, blueprint preparation, and scientific question paper construction. It served as a valuable learning experience for the student teachers in preparing effective evaluation tools for their teaching practice.
