NSS Plastic Waste Collection and Cleaning Programme at Muzhappala Town

The NSS Unit of SUM College of Teacher Education organized a cleaning and plastic waste collection programme at Muzhappala Town on 26 September 2026 in the afternoon as part of its social service and environmental protection activities. The programme was conducted with the aim of creating awareness about cleanliness, proper waste management, and the importance of keeping public places free from plastic waste.

The programme was carried out under the guidance and assistance of Mr. Suneesh K., Assistant Professor, General Education and NSS Programme Officer. A total of 55 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme. The students collected various types of plastic waste from the surroundings of Muzhappala Town, including plastic bags, plastic bottles, waste plastic papers, and other discarded plastic materials.

The students worked enthusiastically in different areas of the town and collected the waste materials. The collected plastic waste was carefully gathered and deposited near the designated collection box for proper disposal. The activity helped to improve the cleanliness of the surroundings and also conveyed an important message about responsible waste management to the local community.

Dr. Krishnakumar E. P., Mr. Divakaran P. E., Mr. George Joseph, Ms. Praseeetha P., and Ms. Heba Azad provided valuable assistance and encouragement to the NSS volunteers throughout the programme. Their support helped the students carry out the activity effectively and systematically.

The programme also received valuable cooperation from the Muzhappala Co-operative Society, Muzhappala, which arranged tea and snacks for the participating students after the cleaning activity. The support and cooperation of the local people also contributed significantly to the successful completion of the programme.

The cleaning drive was successfully completed with active participation from the NSS volunteers, teaching staff, the Co-operative Society, and local residents. The programme served as a meaningful initiative to promote environmental responsibility, social service, cleanliness, and community participation among the student teachers.

The activity concluded on a positive note, leaving the surroundings cleaner and encouraging the volunteers to undertake similar socially beneficial activities in the future.
