Report on World Literacy Day Observation

Introduction

World Literacy Day was observed on 08 September 2026 at the SUM General Hall with the active participation of students and faculty members. The programme was organized to create awareness about the importance of literacy and to highlight its role in individual development, social progress, and the overall development of society.

Programme

The programme began with an introductory session on the significance of World Literacy Day. Dr. Rosa M. C., Principal, SUM College of Teacher Education, spoke a few words about the importance of literacy and its relevance in the present-day world. She emphasized the role of education and literacy in empowering individuals and creating a knowledgeable and responsible society.

Following this, Ms. Heba Azad presented a detailed discussion on the major themes related to literacy. She explained the broader meaning of literacy and discussed how literacy contributes to personal development, social inclusion, employment opportunities, and national development. She also highlighted the need to promote literacy among all sections of society and the importance of continuous learning in the modern world.

Student Participation
