

Report on Onam Celebration – SUMONAM 2025
The vibrant and culturally rich Onam celebration, SUMONAM 2025, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional fervor at SUM College of Teacher Education on 26th August 2025. The event commenced at 10:00 AM and witnessed active participation from students, staff, and esteemed guests.
Traditional Attire and Floral Carpet (Pookkalam)
Students arrived dressed in traditional Kerala attire, which added a festive touch and authenticity to the celebration. A beautifully crafted Pookkalam (floral carpet) was designed by students in a variety of intricate patterns. The creative flair and teamwork demonstrated in the making of the floral carpet truly reflected the spirit of Onam.
Onam Sadya (Feast)
One of the highlights of the celebration was the delicious and elaborate Onam Sadya, a traditional vegetarian feast served on banana leaves. The Sadya was meticulously prepared by the students themselves under the guidance and assistance of faculty members Mr. Krishnakumar EP and Ms. Praseetha K. Multiple student committees were formed to take responsibility for different aspects, such as cooking, serving, and managing logistics. Their teamwork and dedication ensured that the Sadya was served seamlessly to all attendees.
Games and Cultural Activities
After the Sadya, the students enthusiastically participated in a series of traditional games and fun-filled activities. The games included:
- Uriyadi (Breaking the Pot)
- Musical Chair
- Tug of War (Vadamvali)
- Filling the Bottle
- Sundarikku Pottu Thodal (Spotting the Dot on the Lady)
These games brought laughter, excitement, and a sense of friendly competition among the participants and spectators alike.
Organizing Committee and Support
The event was successfully coordinated under the supervision of faculty members Ms.Praseetha K, Mr. Krishnakumar EP, Mr. Divakran PE, Mr. Abhinand K, Mr. Sunnesh K, Mr. George Joseph, and Dr. C.V. Jayasree, all of whom played key roles in managing the overall event. Their dedication and organizational efforts ensured the smooth execution of the entire program.
Special guests Mr. Abdulla Master, Secretary SUMCTE, and Mr. Ahammed Kutty Master, Manager SUMCTE graced the occasion with their presence and encouraged the students with their kind words and blessings.
