On September 12, 2024, SUM College of Teacher Education celebrated the auspicious festival of Onam with great enthusiasm. The campus was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage.
The day commenced with the creation of a magnificent Pookalam, a traditional floral rangoli, symbolizing unity and prosperity. Students, faculty, and staff collaborated to design and decorate the Pookalam.
A sumptuous Onam Sadhya, a traditional Kerala feast, was prepared collectively. Students and staff contributed to the feast, sharing the joy of cooking and sharing.
A series of cultural programs, including traditional dance performances like Kathakali and Mohiniyattam, melodious songs, and instrumental music, showcased the diverse talents of the college community. The highlight was the Thiruvathira Kali, a graceful dance performed by students, symbolizing harmony and unity.
Onam games like tug-of-war, lemon-spoon race, and musical chairs added a fun and competitive element to the celebration. These games fostered camaraderie and sportsmanship among students and faculty.
The event concluded with a melodious song, leaving a lasting impression of the Onam spirit. The celebration was a testament to the college’s commitment to preserving and promoting Kerala’s cultural heritage.
