On 22nd March 2022, the IQAC of SUM College of Teacher Education, Muzhapala, organized an insightful class on the practical application of Braille in daily life. The session was held in the college auditorium from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The event aimed to educate and sensitize the participants about the importance and usage of Braille, especially for individuals with visual impairments.
The resource person for the event was Mr. Sajesh K.P., an Upper Primary School Teacher (UPST) with extensive experience in teaching and working with the visually impaired. Mr. Sajesh K.P. is well-known in the community for his dedication to inclusive education and his innovative approaches to making learning accessible to all students.
The session began with an introduction to Braille, its history, and its significance. Mr. Sajesh provided a detailed demonstration of the Braille system, explaining how it is used for reading and writing. He emphasized the importance of Braille literacy for the visually impaired and how it empowers them to live more independently.
Participants were given hands-on experience with Braille materials, including books and writing tools. Mr. Sajesh also discussed various practical applications of Braille in daily life, such as labeling household items, reading product information, and using Braille-enabled devices. He shared inspiring stories of individuals who have successfully integrated Braille into their lives, highlighting the transformative impact of Braille literacy.
The interactive nature of the session allowed participants to ask questions and engage in discussions, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the visually impaired and the solutions that Braille offers.
